Donald Trump said in a tweet on Tuesday that the former first lady and first lady of the United States should stop taking money from dictatorships and instead “pay for the things you need in your country”.
“Melania, your policies are dishonest, you don’t even respect your own country!” the president wrote.
“What you did as first lady is disgusting, what you did in your native country, you should stop it.
Yours to do what you do!”
Melania Trump (@FLOTUS) May 29, 2021The comments came just hours after the US president, while visiting Saudi Arabia, criticized the Saudi government for its treatment of women.
“Saudi Arabia is killing women.
The world must be united to end this horrible cycle of oppression,” Trump tweeted.
“Saudi Arabia needs to stop this killing and bloodshed.”
He also took a swipe at the US government for “taking in millions of people from the Middle East, bringing them to our country” without offering any evidence.
“The US government is taking in millions and millions of refugees from the Mideast, bringing these people to our shores without any evidence, without any vetting,” he said.
Trump, who was speaking at a fundraiser in Las Vegas, had previously attacked Trump for his controversial comments that the first lady was too old to be president and should focus on her “issues and not get involved in anything”.
