By TheScore Staff • March 16, 2018 04:13:29In a year that was littered with disappointing free agents, the NHL has had a ton of good players come back and be the team they were supposed to be.
The 2017-2018 NHL season featured a handful of teams that have been good, and then some.
Here’s a look at what’s been the best teams in each of the past three years.
The Pittsburgh Penguins were the biggest surprise of the bunch, landing Sidney Crosby from the Carolina Hurricanes for two first-round picks and a second-round pick in 2018.
The move made the Penguins a real threat for the Stanley Cup and helped them land a number of young prospects that will be able to contribute in the near future.
While the Penguins are a franchise that’s been around since 1996, the Penguins were not expected to be as good in 2017-19.
That all changed with a strong start and continued improvements from star players Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, Patric Hornqvist, and Matt Cullen.
The Penguins were able to make the playoffs, but not in the way they were hoping, as the Chicago Blackhawks came back to win the Stanley Cups for the first time since 2001.
After losing two of the three best players from the team’s core, the Pittsburgh Penguins have taken a step back in the past couple years.
In 2018-19, the Pens were able make the Stanley Champions again with an impressive run that included a first-place finish in the Metropolitan Division and a first round sweep of the New York Rangers in the conference finals.
They are back in first place in the Atlantic Division and looking to make their first trip to the Eastern Conference Finals since 2005-06.
The Nashville Predators are currently the best team in the NHL, and they’ll look to make a big leap this season.
After missing out on a playoff spot last season, the Predators are poised to get back on track, and their return to the playoffs will likely be the highlight of their 2018-2019 campaign.
This is one of the best-kept secrets in the League, and it’s been a big reason why the Predators have been able to remain in first position for the past two seasons.
The Toronto Maple Leafs have been one of hockey’s most entertaining teams, but there are many reasons to not like them.
While the Maple Leafs were one of several teams that made it back to the postseason for the second straight year, the Leafs fell short of the Stanley Championship in 2017 and 2018.
This season is no different, and the Leafs have shown that they can compete with the best in the league.
The Buffalo Sabres are looking to build on their strong start to the season, but the Sabres are going to need a lot of help this year.
In 2017-20, the Sabres made the playoffs for the fifth time in six seasons.
They were able go deep in the playoffs after winning the Atlantic division for the third straight year and finishing fifth in the Western Conference for the fourth consecutive season.
This year’s Sabres are hoping to go even deeper in the Stanley Playoffs, and if they can get back to that level, they could very well have a chance to make it back-to-back Stanley Cups in 2019 and 2020.
In terms of talent, the Edmonton Oilers have been the most consistent team in their lineup since being in the West Conference for most of the previous five seasons.
The Oilers are looking for their first playoff berth since 2014-15, and while they haven’t made the Stanley Final since 2011-12, they’re going to have a big opportunity to do so this year, with a young core that includes Connor McDavid and Sam Gagner.
The Columbus Blue Jackets were one team that looked to be in trouble this past season, as they missed the playoffs and finished third in the East in terms of points.
The Blue Jackets are looking forward to making the playoffs this year with a new direction, and there are a lot to like about the Columbus roster.
The Florida Panthers are looking like the new face of the franchise.
The Panthers have been a hot team since being named the Atlantic Conference Champions in 2019-20 and have been looking to win another title since then.
The team has been one that has a very young core and is still developing some of its young players.
With the addition of defenseman Aaron Ekblad, the Panthers will have one of their most exciting young lines in years.
Florida Panthers forward Jonathan Huberdeau has a lot on his plate this season, and he’s going to be looking to improve on his offensive numbers from last season.
Huber deau has had some issues with injuries, but his ability to play in all situations, and his ability for a team to get him the puck is going to help him make an impact this season in his first season back.
The Los Angeles Kings are looking better and better each year, and this year is no exception.
The Kings are coming off a disappointing year
